About the keyword density checker
What density is actually for
Keyword density is not a ranking factor and has not been one for many years. It is useful as a diagnostic: unusually high density signals over-optimisation that hurts readability and lowers the confidence a retrieval system attaches to your passages.
A sensible range
Natural writing on a topic typically lands between 0.5% and 2% for the primary term. Above roughly 3% the text usually reads badly. Rather than targeting a number, read the passage aloud — if the repetition is audible, cut it.
Look at phrases, not just words
The two and three-word phrase counts are more diagnostically useful than single words. Repeated phrasing across a page is a stronger signal of formulaic writing than any single term's density.
Questions
What is the ideal keyword density?
There is no ideal. Write for a reader and density lands where it lands, usually between 0.5% and 2%. Use this tool to catch accidental over-repetition, not to hit a target.
Does keyword density affect AI citations?
Indirectly and negatively. Retrieval is semantic, so repetition adds no relevance signal, while the resulting awkwardness lowers passage quality.
